Oracy
oracy
Oracy at Hilton Lane is about every child finding their voice and learning to use it with confidence, clarity and respect. Starting in the Early Years with high quality interactions between staff and children: sharing attention, responding and expending then developing into conversation.
Through structured talk, purposeful discussion and rich opportunities to speak, listen and perform, pupils develop the communication skills that underpin success across the curriculum and beyond. From early storytelling and partner talk to presentations, debates and performance poetry, children learn how to express ideas clearly, listen actively, justify opinions and adapt their language for different audiences. Our oracy curriculum builds confidence, deepens thinking and strengthens relationships, helping children become articulate, thoughtful and empowered communicators. At Hilton Lane, we believe every voice matters—and we teach our pupils how to use theirs with purpose.
talk
We promote and encourage purposeful talk, but also listening. With our 'Talking Tuesday' activities, children get the opportunity, with the support of question sentence stems, to share their ideas and challenge each other. There is never and right or wrong answer; just discussion and ideas sharing.
