Reading at Hilton Lane is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that books open doors—to knowledge, imagination and endless possibility. Through a rich, structured reading curriculum, children learn to decode with confidence, develop fluency and explore meaning in ever‑deepening ways. From captivating stories and powerful poetry to fascinating non‑fiction, pupils read widely and often, discovering new worlds and building the vocabulary, comprehension and critical thinking skills they need to thrive. Our approach nurtures curiosity, fosters a love of reading and empowers every child to become a thoughtful, passionate and independent reader. At Hilton Lane, reading is more than a subject—it’s a lifelong adventure.

We had a wonderful World Book Day, partnered with Magic Breakfast, to give the children an exciting book filled day... we even made the news!

Another day, another free book fair for our wonderful children! Every child is able to self select a book to take home, keep forever and enjoy. It was lovely to hear children choosing together with plans to swap and share afterwards. 

A huge thank you to the Children's Book Project who we have been working with all year - helping us to continue to grow the love of reading in our school.
